It is with heavy hearts, and with gratitude for a life well lived, that the St. Mark’s Day School family shares the homegoing of our beloved Ms. Carmen L. Santiago.
For 25 years, Ms. Carmen served St. Mark’s as a teacher in our Early Childhood program. She was often among the very first teachers our children knew. She welcomed our youngest learners through our doors, and she planted the seed of faith and the love of learning in the earliest years of their lives. A generation of St. Mark’s students began their journey in her classroom, and many carried her lessons with them long after they left: lessons in kindness, in good character, and in faith. Each morning, Ms. Carmen was there to greet the children as they arrived, a warm and familiar presence that let every child know they were seen and loved. She was beloved by students, teachers, and staff alike, and her absence will be deeply felt throughout our school.
Ms. Carmen embodied the spirit of St. Mark’s. She saw each child as one of God’s children, worthy of dignity, patience, and love. Her faithfulness, her warmth, and her quiet strength were a gift to our students, our faculty, and our Crown Heights community. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched.
We invite our families, alumni, staff, and friends to join us as we give thanks for her life and commend her to God’s eternal care.
